A Good Gift

I have had a few months where I have felt pretty horrible physically. I am doing better now, but for a while, my doctors had no clue what was wrong. In fact, I had three of them say to me, “I don’t know what to do with you.” Isn’t that a fun diagnosis?
One day, while I was lying in bed feeling yucky and discouraged, my little boy came in to lay by me. As we were talking, he said that he wished I could still see. I agreed. Then he changed his outlook and said,” But, seeing blackness is a good gift.” I smiled at this one. He then patted my arm and said something that melted my heart, “You are a good gift, Momma.” Isn’t that darling?
My son’s simple comments that day, not only lifted my sad heart, but helped me look for the “good gift(s)” in my life. Even seeing blackness is a gift because it means I am still alive to care for my cute little family- even when they drive me crazy.
If you are reading this, you are a good gift! You really are. You are alive to do the Father’s will for you. If you are discouraged, like I was, look for those good gifts in your life. They might even be the things that get you down.

sometimes it takes a child to remind us of what we need to know. I will keep you in my prayers. Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for all you do. I just bought your CD and can't wait to hear it.

well said. Sometimes our kids are so much closer to the savior then us, just as he beckons us to be like little children. They often times are his tools and i am so glad your son was just that for you on this particular day. and that you were in turn a tool by sharing it with the rest of us!

I love little children and humbling little comments and sweet and tender exchanges like these that pull us out of sorrow and suffering. My little girl is full of these too at the right times it seems and it's reassuring for me when times are tough. They help the most when Satan is seemingly succeeding at tearing me down one discouraging thought at a time.
You need to know that you truly ARE a good gift! You have no idea how much you help thousands and thousands of women, men and youth too. Whoever is reading your book(s) or listening to you speak knows that YOU are a good gift. Your son is absolutely right. I love this post. Thanks for sharing it. I need to remind myself of this often as well. And I am often reminded by my daughter too...which in itself is a good gift. Good gifts truly are all around us.
I love, love LOVE your blog, your thoughts and humor puts things in to a beautiful perspective. You are an inspiration. Thank You Kris!
